About the author

D. K. Rajagopalan was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, to parents who had migrated from Chennai, in the south of India. When she was nine, she and her family moved back to India. She spent her formative years surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, great aunts and uncles – essentially, more relatives than you can shake a stick at. The Indian family dynamic that she is so familiar with informs her writing and characters, presenting a view of modern India to an international audience.

In 2008, Rajagopalan moved to Sydney, Australia to work, ostensibly for a year. One year has become more than ten, and she now lives in Sydney permanently with her husband, daughter and a rescue dog, Oscar. The Shanthi Colony Mysteries came about after the birth of her daughter, as a way to one day be able to show her daughter the world her mother grew up in.
